BIO

Emanuel L. Hills Jr., born on September 9, 1989, widely recognized as South Cat, stands as a versatile rap/hip-hop artist, skilled audio engineer, and music consultant hailing from Conway, South Carolina. Influenced by icons like Notorious BIG, Pastor Troy, Bone Thugz N Harmony, UGK, Jadakiss, Ja Rule, Twista, and more, South Cat tirelessly strives to elevate his music, aspiring to witness his name gracing the pinnacle of the Billboard charts. Motivated by the untimely loss of his brother, he channels profound emotions into his craft, seeking to forge a musical connection with a global audience.

Guided by his grandmother since the age of 5, South Cat's early exposure to music unfolded in the church choir and theatrical performances, showcasing his innate talents. At 11, he met his longtime friend and producer, Michael "Cokpara Famous" Mishoe, sparking South Cat's interest in music composition. Their collaboration extended to co-founding the record label, 501 Music, LLC, in 2017.

Embarking on a military career in 2007 with the United States Navy, South Cat encountered like-minded independent artists who shared his ambitions. Teaming up with Travis "Trapedo" Mosley, they formed the notable rap duo "Guttaways" in 2008, creating memorable tracks like "Robbin," "Break Dat Bitch Down," and "Amazing." The duo expanded into the supergroup "D.S.C.B." (Down South Country Boyz), releasing the mixtape "D.S.C.B. Vol I" in 2010. South Cat's journey also intersected with artists Travanti "Peppa" Johnson and Baron "Bama" Jones, leading to the formation of the rap trio SSC (South Side Connection) and the release of the mixtape "100 Block Tapes" in 2010.

After a 4-year hiatus, prompted by unexpected life events, South Cat made a comeback in the summer of 2016 with the single "Hold On," featured on "Starving Artist 2.5," a mixtape hosted by DJ Vlad and Geek the Hot.

His debut solo EP, "Eminence," dropped on February 24, 2017, followed by his latest project, "Long Live Busta: The Christape," a poignant 15-track mixtape dedicated to his younger brother, Christopher Martin Bennett (1993-2018). Hosted by South Carolina’s DJ P-Money, the mixtape is accessible on various platforms.

South Cat's single "Tired" found a place in Black Auerbach’s project "Escaping Poverty" in fall 2020, which charted at number 12 on iTunes. South Cat has released music tirelessly and is preparing for the release of his next project due to release early 2025.
